Cool pics, I had one of the 1919 Parkhurst postcards & had a print at Davenport many years ago. A guy saw it & said he had the Weishaar bike in original condition & had collected everything associated with that bike & race. I asked him if he had Weishaar's postcard, he said they didn't exist. I told him I saw it in Earlyriders mag. He was pissed & laughing, said he had collected it all 35 years before & now had to search for one! The Cornfield Classic videos on Utube are super.

You've been finding some good ones JoJo. That Triumph reminds me of the Norton my brother had. He bought an ugly as Fk High rider with the lean foreward motor & put in a stripped down a rigid chassis. That thing was fast & fun but shifting a Norton was a nightmare for us Harley guys until you had a couple laps around the block on it.

Thank You Duffey~Likewise! Can't get enough of those old race programs and history!! I used to go to the local cemetery when i first started riding the Brit Motorcycles, before i would trust myself on the streets. Then throw in H-D and an Indian into the mix, and there was a whole lot of cRaZy concentration involved~Hahaha. I had a bunch of close calls juggling all three on daily rides, but it did hone the riding skills!

JoJo, I have written hundreds of history stories about long gone people. Before writing their stories, I always go to their graves & hang out for a bit & let them talk to me ! I look at their neighhbors stones & do little research on them too. Each time the story I write changes for the better. [ A local Amish historian/writer who loves my stories interviewed me. He was a little freeked out when I told him that, but after a couple of minutes he said he would try it ! ]

I had a '65 BSA Lightning but the Norton was worse than BSA & Triumph & early Sportys because it shifted opposite. It was one up 3 down so in an emergency stop an HD guy would push down on the right lever & it would upshift & go faster. We had a local Brit collector Tom Wegman who had 4 Vincents including an OP '52 Black Shadow, Velocette's & German BMWs etc. He became friends with the great Aussey tuner, Phil Iriving. Phil came ot Iowa City to hang with Tom a couple times spending a month riding around with Tom & another local Vellocette collector, Mike. I rode my 45 to Anamosa with Mike a couple times once on his '36 Velo & another time on his '50 Velo Mac that he did economy runs on. Mike has a signed set of 4 books, first edition "Holy Grail" by Phil. Irving. [Tuning for Speed.Rich Mixture, Motorcycle Engineering, & Black Smoke] I found a non signed set in a local book store for $44 ! My brother sold the Norton to Tom who built a road racing machine out of it & sadly wrecked & lost use of his legs. I maintained Tom's Volvo wagon for him late in his life.
Pic of Phil on the Vindian & local Triumph legend & friend, Raw Sewage MC member Brother John. John's brother Whale also rode Triumph. Many of the local BMW, Guzzi riders & John & Whale on Triumph, would annually ride deep into Mexico, Guatamala. etc.

It's from a newspaper clipping, hence poor quality. I spend a great deal of time researching newspaper archives. I did get back in touch with John Powers' grandson recently, he has not yet dug into the items left to him by his grandmother John's wife Blanche.

In 1913 the Detroit PD purchased two Henderson mc's to evaluate which led to the department purchasing twenty four new Henderson's in the spring of 1914. This is part of the fleet in front of Detroit PD HQ.

Duffey, that appears to be a custom pit repair brace on ole' Bill's left sliding leg. He must have banged it pretty good, and still wanted to make the Main. Almost looks like a block of wood~Hahaha. *What 'gonads' those guys had back then!!!!!
