He wasn't listed in 1938, this may be 1939 or 1940

In 1938 Spannagle was a mechanic for H.E. Siepmann. I also looked at 1939 and 1940 info without finding Spannagle as an entrant, possibly ran the 100 miler.

Spannagle was # 1940 4 novice 1.jpg 34 in the 1940 novice race, I don't have the 1939 program. Prewar Daytona don't come up 4 sale very often.

I imagine that the motorcycle is a 1941 but the picture is definitely taken after WW2 judging by all the bling that has been added.

Peoria TT. Peoria Motorcycle club bought new club grounds in 1940. They had TT races in 1942 & probably 1946 before becoming a National Championship Race in 1947. These pics are the start of one race & the 80" winners.
The pics don't match any of the 1947 & later pics.
The helmets & the crude round numbers plates make me guess that these pics are from the 1942 races. [no names]

Roger, do you know when in 1940 the club purchased the new grounds?

I found reference to a 100 mile Championship TT race held at Peoria on June 16 1940 and a combined TT & hill climb event held Sept 29 1940.

No that was on club page. These may be 1940, no info other than start & 80" winners, on the 2 pics I found sold on ebay. Joe Debaker Davenport HD dealer personal collection. The white bike looks like '40-'42 Scout

I did some more digging and answered one of my own questions. The June 1940 race was not held at the new club grounds. That race was held north of Peoria off of Route 88 which is now IL-40.

Nothing says this was the new club grounds, it could have been the old grounds. If that is a '40 or later Indian, that is the only indication that Sep 1939 was the earliest possible.

I understand in regard to the photos you posted above. I was looking into the 1940 date of purchase of new club grounds and the first event held at new grounds. The June 1940 100 mile TT race was still held at the old club grounds.
