  • The second picture is a white 1934 Harley VL with optional one year chrome hi-flo muffler and exhaust, Corbin speedometer, ride control and buddy seat. Nice!

    • Steve, that's an interesting '34. Several non stock features besides the all white paint job: white headlight, parking lights, tool box, battery cover with no decal, Later fender lamp, chrome muffler but no other chrome package parts, missing muffler hanger at fender. Chrome? wheel rings. Do you think all this is "owner customizing"? Neverthe less it's a great picture. Cute girl on the back, too. Thoughts?

      • Dear Dave, I'm not good on cars but a couple of the rear ends in the picture look later than 1934. I saw the muffler tail clamp was missing and expected the muffler clamp to be chrome rather than black. The oiler cover and valve covers could be chrome so maybe part of the chrome package but with the handlebars missing? The long white grips would be one-year-only as the spirals were shortened in 1935 at the same time as the front fender lamp was revised. You can see a gold line round the battery box so this looks like a factory paint job. The patent decal was not always put on the right side if you browse comtemporary Enthusiast pictures. With Juneau Avenue connections, special paint and plating jobs would not be a problem, and we know from Herbert Wagner's book that the impractical all white scheme was surprisingly popular. The bike would take a few hits if put in for AMCA judging today, but the bikes have to tell the story rather than the books. What fun they must have had!

        • Badger34, thanks for the info on the rider. Since he worked for Knuth's it might have helped him personalize his bike. The cars in front if the tavern are mid to late 30s. The first one is possibly a Plymouth. The coupe is a Model A Ford, probably a 1930 or 1931. Also, looks like the front of a motorcycle peeking out by the last car. Great picture.

            • Back to that 1934 VL. I've just looked through Herb Wagner's book and there is a picture of Matheus on another white '34 but with a regular black toolbox and headlamp. Also a 1936 photo of him on a white EL. So if we say the posted photo was taken in 1935 of a '34 with a special paint job and some customisation can we all be happy?

              • I like JoJo357's middle photo above, which can also be found on FB Group "Old Vancouver BC" posted by Dave Banks, whom I know.
(There must be a story about the dent at the front of the right fuel tank)
                Great photos as usual!

John, that's one heavy hit on that tank. Appears to be a fork smack on the vertical dent, but as far as the horizontal~Who knows, maybe racked the front end hard and the handlebar made the horizontal dent? Kindly Thank You all for my postings comments, i aim to please.

                      • I just got this September 1956 Enthusiast, and it has some "user" drawn upgrades to the standard stock Pohlman photos. At first I thought it was the scribblings (graffiti) of a buddling child artist but on closer examination I think it was the artistic work of a potential (or serious) 1956 FL lover that wanted a bike like the 1950 BT that John posted in post #5261.

The original overwrites are with a blue ball point pen. My scanner rejected color for some reason.
