Ladage Cycle Shop
"Bob" Ladage & his brother "Pete" Ladage.
Robert James "Bob" Ladage 1916-1968
Donald Aurthur "Pete" Ladage 1917-1991
They were born at Grundy Center, NW of Cedar Rapids towards Iowa Falls.
The family had moved to Cedar Rapids by 1930.
Pete was a Technical Sgt. in WWII, Pete's sons Dennis & Donald Jr served in Vietnam, Dennis was killed there.
Bob Ladage was a pretty good motorcycle racer going back to 1940 or before.
His ride of choice was Indian Motocycles.
In a 1940 CR race, Bob had a good run but went down losing the race.
1941 Bob & George Auld had matching shiney new bikes. [Harley Davidson]
Over 6,000 spectators at the July 5th 1941 McCarthy Heights Speedway races.
Bob won the Amateur race.
End of September 1941, Bob Ladage was critically injured in a race at Princeton Illinois.
I don't know if Bob Ladage ever raced agian but he did referee at motorcycle races after that.
George Clifford was the Indian dealer at that time.
Unknown when Cliff's Cycle Shop quit selling Indian motorcycles.
Cliff didn't spend for large ads.
1947 Ladage Cycle Shop began selling Indian.
They sold 5 1947 Chiefs to the Police Dept. for $2,875 after $1,000 credit for 4 motorcycles traded in.
In 1947 Ladage Cycle Shop was at 325 1st St SW
They continued selling Indian motorcycles until about 1949.
There was a matchbook on Ebay, the ad said Pete Ladage's Indian Cycle Shop, Cedar Rapids IA.
It was an advertisement for the 1948 model 348 Indian.
Indian had a different numbering system.
3= Chief, 48=1948, C is the 3rd letter, D is the 4th. H is the 8th letter
The 1948, 348 Chief had engine numbers starting in CDH.
Ladage Cycle Shop closed about 1954.
