I have a friend whose father was an Indian dealer. He would take the crate wood home and use it for shelves in the shed behind his house. Several years ago the house was sold and my friend removed all the shelves that had writing on them from the Indian factory. Some of these went to the Wheels Through Time museum and were repurposed into a t shirt rack in the lobby.

Great images, thanks for posting them.
This picture provides a good reference of an original Indian. But the sign states that it's a '47 and the tank emblems indicate a '46? I also love the puddle of oil under it!

I am guessing this picture was taken in Australia based on the 2nd to left soldier's hat. I do know that export motorcycles from the U.S. got a lot of left-over, and previous year parts. American motorcycles were probably very difficult to sell in British territories due to exorbitant taxes, fees, and tariffs so I wonder if U.S. manufacturers put left over parts on bike to reduce the "up-front" selling price?

Correct you are Eric. And the Morgan & Wacker sign on the wall is also a give away. They're still going strong here in OZ and are our oldest H-D dealer.

The text I have with the picture says it was taken at the Brisbane Exhibition in 1947.
