No intention to hijack this thread, but I am looking for the exhaust crossover cover (heat shield) shown in post #116 if anyone has an extra laying around. Also, the chrome cover on the right side for the rear exhaust pipe.
It is a shame George Marakas has not chimed in since he has 4 or 5 '65's, all Winner's Circle I believe.Lonnie Campbell #9908

Hi Lonnie.
I don't think there is any worry over hijacking this thread.
The thread starter hasn’t contributed since 2008.
If there is a possible hijacker, it would be me. Loading up all the pictures.
But the pictures are meant for the very reason you have enquired....A correct reference for parts needed.
We had the Bendigo swap meet about 4 weeks ago and I traipsed the whole show grounds, scouring for any useable HD part. I picked up a few bargains but, had a great deal of joy when I found the left hand side heat shield with clamps for a bargain price.
$15 bucks Ohhh yeah!!!
Now that I have seen this bike and taken the pictures, I realise that I have another useless part that doesn’t fit any of my projects. My heat shield must fit Generator Shovel- up.
When I read the whole thread the other day, the guy who started it listed his shop, or made some reference to it.
One of you guys in the States could ring him and see what he’s up to.
Also, one of the thread contributors said he had a low VIN, “Known history” bike.
It would be invaluable if he posted pictures of that bike.Steve Little

Steve,
I looked and was amazed I never posted to this thread before. I also have a 65. It is an Original paint Winners Circle bike. Matter of fact George judged it twice. Once for junior first and the third time for Winners Circle. http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/bbo...php?albumid=46 Here are some pictures of it. I like looking at your pictures, I see a lot of the same stuff.
To Lonnie, I think George actually has 5 winners circle 65's and his Partner Doc also has a couple winners circle 65's. I think all but one are restorations and they are very nice, I have been up close to all of them.
Mine came off the line at H.D. on Sept. 24th 1964 according to Harley archives. Went to Walter Brothers in Peoria and was sold to... are you ready for this... Edward Little. I know his name from an old mechanic at Walters Brothers named "Woody" I used to see back in the early 80's. He remembered servicing the bike because of the full hub cap on the front wheel. I should have made a copy of the original title when I got it but wasn't thinking 35 years out at the time.John Underwood

I see George at the Sunshine Chapter Meet each year with his '65 lineup. Then would be a good time to talk to him. Regarding the cover you bought, Steve, if it looks like the one in your pics but does not fit quite right it is likely one for a Duo-Glide. If it sort of looks like a scoop (or shovel) it is for a cone shovel.Lonnie Campbell #9908

Hi John.
Beautiful bike. Actually I have seen your bike in on your avatar in other posts, and I liked it so much, I have had my bike painted the same.
Don’t worry. I live 8000 miles away, so it wont get to that awkward stage like turning up to a party and having the same shirt as someone else. Ohh wait! You got Grampa Edward”s bike? Cool! I’ve got a bike over there to.
I have pieced this bike together over the last 4 weeks, engine and trans build included.
Lonnie. Here is the wrong heat shield that I bought. A friend has one on his 69.

I am up to the stage of fitting the exhaust and I’m rather disappointed in the experience of these pipes.
There’s been no swearing, No skun knuckles, No hammers thrown across the workshop. No stress and I’m feeling at a loss because I’m not used to this hassle free style fit up.

Steve,
Thanks for all the great pics and info. Back to working on my long term reclamation of a 65FLH (former fat bob) after a hip replacement. I can hold up an FLH again and I can put my feet up on the pegs of a LeMans, it's a miracle. Tin is ready for paint and I'm starting the re-wire job. Signal light flasher location is my question. I can't figure out where it belongs. Can you help me out with that and maybe some pictures. I have a picture of the horn and electric board under the headlight shroud. I've never done a Harley with signal lights before. I'm not put off by the challenge as I also work on vintage Moto Guzzi and BMW restos which have pretty interesting wiring.
Thanks.

Pjs, my '65 has a small hole and a screw on left rear headlight housing to mount flasher to inside of housing (below where one would mount left indicator light). Not sure if it is correct but I have seen a few others like it in the same spot. I think the original flasher was square and sat in a small bracket held in by the screw. I am using a common round 12 volt flasher from the auto parts store and just secured it somewhere inside housing and put a dummy screw in the small hole. Keith
