His last post was in September 2010, (gmarakas). Four years later, we'll have to quit holding our breath...

Wow I'm late to the party thought my '65 was missing the side cover on the battery. My '65 has less than 9k on the clock and all original paint, heads and cylinders never been off. Vin 3723 so will offer help if possible. A 65 Panhead book would be great.

From the factory 65's came with a light gray hard plastic solenoid cover that snapped over the solenoid without removing the wires! Also I would say a one year only part.

My experience is that they are silver (grey). The '65 color sales brochure seems to support this along with some original '65 I've seen. I also have a pre AMF NOS original '65 cover in the factory packing -65 that is silver/gray. So curious to know if that topic was resolved and what the result/consensus is.

                      • This seat is from a freinds bike which is a 12000 original mile, original paint, 2nd owner bike with full known history. Vin is 779-

Doesnt look like any book is going to print. Should we start a 1965 picture thread so that (Known History) 1965 bikes could be displayed.
It would dispel some of the incorrect information being quoted as gospel.

                        • I have some nice clear pictures of this bike. A great reference for anyone piecing one back together from parts....like me.
The battery cover is on the bench as he was doing some work on the bike.

                            • Isn't the regulator cover an accessory?

My 68 O.P. has the light grey solenoid cover Let me see if I can load a pic. Just checked. Doesn't show up clearly in any of the pics I have. It is a soft grey rubber like cover on mine. I have seen that regulator cover show up on e-pay regularly either as used or NOS.
