      early sidecar

As for all that nonsense about me in earlier posts, I am a whole lot closer to Three Stooges than Einstien. I 've learned allot from this thread and have enjoyed it very much. Thanks Guys !!

Clydeflathead, your most recent pic of the Indian sidecar got my attention. Did Indian often use rivets to mount the top body skin? Or; do you think that was owner done.

Trying to find good clear photos is tough at best.
but this one gives one something to think about.

O.K. that was a what I meant by a chassis difference. I'm very new to sidecar talk and this thread is been a great help. Thanks for providing the visuals... I will indeed ponder it...

O.K ........ finally another daydreamer that thinks about time travel... I mention it once in awhile and it goes by the wayside....I'm thinking it's viewed as pure nonesense... well of course it is but isn't the pursuit of the past just plain old fascinating??? I've always thought of a time machine of sorts. It never occurred to me to just walk into the picture.........

            Clyde,
To avoid confusion I purposely tried to keep my comments to "straight axle" chassis and left "dropped axle" types out of the discussion as the reason for the thread was to identify what Cory had acquired.
The dropped axle chassis you posted and then assumed that it had a parallel axle with like size bearings at both ends led me to pull some of my stuff out of the shed and photograph to try and help resolve this problem.
In the photo are sidecar wheels off Goulding, Indian Princess, Indian Standard, Montgomery, Harley-Davidson and Henderson, all but one of which have bigger inner bearings than those on the outside.
There is both tapered and parallel hubs in the photos with the Montgomery wheel being the only one having the same size bearings at either end.
What I'm saying here is just because you see a parallel hub don't make asumptions that it has like size bearings at either end when generally that will not be the case.

What we think is an early Henderson sidecar wheel as it is identical to one on a mates 1918 Henderson rig.

Also I have an early American sidecar that's been in my garage for about 25 years , I also need advice as to manufacturer , similar to Cory's but very noticeably has just the one 1/4 leaf spring at the front in the middle and 'C' springs at the rear , can I butt in on this thread with it or start a new one?? the clamps are same as on Cory’s , which I have seen on an Excelsior for sale in Holland , I want to attach the sidecar to my 1916 Excelsior , will look great as both have similar patina !!!! many thanks for interesting thread , there's not enough info on early sidecars , also ?? was there a link between Golding and Dusting sidecars (of Australia) as the chassis look similar ??
                        Ken

Ken!!! Good to see you speaking up again! Butt on in all you want! Got any pics of your elusive sidecar? I'm really thrilled to have the ol' hack it needs some work and parts but I'm confident it will roll eventually...... Now.... Clyde's pics were just working not too long ago.... I can't view 'em either.
