Out-of-my-league manifold question

I have heard that too Peter, and I wonder if that is typical of 1915 cylinders. I always look at the fins around the exhaust cover but there must have been a number of pattern changes on those cylinders over that '15-'16 period.

I have a "1915" cylinder with wrap around fins and a round top screw boss. Late 1915/early 1916? Who can say now what was happening in the foundry back then.
Btw: the gearcase cover / oil pump on that 16 engine pictured is a Fred Lange reproduction.

I'm no expert but have had both styles of these cylinders.On my early motor the boss is rounded,and on my very late '15 motor they were squared.This pic is my early '15 serial number 3,xxx

Notice the motor in this thread has a lower fin around the setscrew than my motor and the setscrew boss is closer to the top of the cylinder.Many of these '15-early'16 motors have later[late '16-'19] cylinders that have the wrap around part added to make them look like '15-early '16.I think that is what this motor has.I know builders who have done many later cylinders this way.Also notice the thickness of the top fins[all fins] is thicker on the motor in question.

I see what you mean. I thought the M in Milwaukee looked a bit off to the H and A in Harley. I guess it's all academic; like when someone says, "you don't look so good", and you start feeling sick
