I have heard that too Peter, and I wonder if that is typical of 1915 cylinders. I always look at the fins around the exhaust cover but there must have been a number of pattern changes on those cylinders over that '15-'16 period.

I have a "1915" cylinder with wrap around fins and a round top screw boss. Late 1915/early 1916? Who can say now what was happening in the foundry back then.
Btw: the gearcase cover / oil pump on that 16 engine pictured is a Fred Lange reproduction.

Notice the motor in this thread has a lower fin around the setscrew than my motor and the setscrew boss is closer to the top of the cylinder. Many of these '15-early'16 motors have later[late '16-'19] cylinders that have the wrap around part added to make them look like '15-early '16.I think that is what this motor has.I know builders who have done many later cylinders this way. Also notice the thickness of the top fins[all fins] is thicker on the motor in question.Last edited by duffeycycles; 12-03-2015, 09:38 AM.

That's appalling, Duffey!
But it explains a lot of boogered manifolds, thanks.

If I could cut'n'paste from it, many Folks would enjoy.
And I don't mean just the cute pistol. (Clues to the real maker with this folding trigger, anyone?)
The 'Lock-Jaw Nipple Grip" is just as cute as its name, because it looks serious.
Back to topic example:
That looks like a red Bakelite knob. It all looks too serious.
