Did you do what I suggested in my earlier post? In regard to taking the magneto and related ignition components apart and give them a thorough cleaning with a scotch brite like material and use an electrical compound to promote a good ground and retard corrosion. Most of the magneto systems on these bikes are over 50 years old and never had this area addressed. The parts may not look that bad but the combination of all of the components having some oxidation can result in a bad or intermittent grounding of the magneto.

Hard starting 1964 R69S

The problem was a worn spark advance!! I replaced it and the R69S started on the first kick. There are times it is a bit reluctant to start, but that may be because the Bing carburetors are worn. I have taken it on several trips this past fall, and was able to make it home each time. After the BMW and I have our valves worked on this winter, we should be ready for more and longer tripts this year. Again, thank you all for your input.George Tinkham
