            • The second to last picture of the two ladies in #2206 shows a 1936 Harley VL, and that looks like the Sherwood Green and Silver paint scheme, just like the one that fetched $60k at the recent Mecum auction in Vegas.

Steve I think the bike is an RL but probably right about the color. Jerry

                  • I bet the restorer wishes they had that old picture - they would have gotten the front oil line loop correct.

                    • I'm with you on it being an RL Jerry as I see no evidence of a drive chain or brake rod in that picture. Good call! I agree about the colors also but possibly the maroon and green??....Smitty

                        • It was always convenient to hit the John Pierce colors site. But... a lot of the ways of the past are quickly vanishing. Last time i spoke with John, he said that him and his wife were just going to plan & take motorcycle trips around the USA. When i asked about keeping the web site up, he said nobody showed any interest in keeping it going, or for that matter, anything to do with the stock of paint products. To bad, if i was only a little younger.

As far as the '36 goes, my hunch would be Maroon & Nile Green~simply because it looks darker on the picture...? Also, no evidence of a chain. Good eyes Y'all.

                            • You're right and I was wrong, the two girls are on a 36RL small twin. The front mudguard braces are different to the VL and the horn brackets are longer, plus that hand oil line loop is for the 45. I still think the colour is green and silver though. For 1936 only the wheel rims were painted as part of the colour scheme, so those rims would be silver painted. The Nike Green/Maroon rims would be darker. With six colour schemes and both 18 and 19 inch rims that was twelve different items to stock, so used one year only.

The Vegas bike has black grips, a no-cost option, while the girls look to have the deeply impractical original white grips that look so good.

If the underbidder on the Vegas 36VLH wants to contact me, I still have a last restored 36VLH for sale.
