    I hope Duffey's right, Paul,

    And its the tank, not the headstock.

    The caveat is the apparent work at the two intersections; If it was truly a "weld" repair, it could well be ruined anyway.

    Can't weld on 'spelter'. It 'admixtures' into the base metal. Hope and pray they used a torch, and kept it under control!

    PS: Frames were oven-tempered to be springy, and welding a 'gusset' like that can only be a mistake in the long run. Even with pretty beads, which would probably be worse.

      For future reference “37” SS measurements are: 21 19/32”,17 1/4”, 7 1/4” respectively.

        The 741 frame dimensions can be found in the Model 45-640 operation and maintenance manual on page 55-2. It discusses how to check the frame for alignment.

        I bought my copy from Greer:

        https://www.jerrygreersengineering.c...1940&modelid=4

        The hard part is finding someone with a frame table and fixture to straighten the thing, but at least this will give you a reference and a place to start. Good luck!

          Tom;
          Well the good news is my tank is a 741 and the center to center mounting hole measurements match your frame measurements
          the bad new is my frame measurements do not.

          Bernhardt;
          Brilliant idea I should have thought of the manual. (I got my digital copy from the AMCA Library).

          Here are a few photos of Indian Engineering Au.
          I know, I know it's hard to believe anyone could do a better job at setting this right than me, first time, with my Woolworths yard stick, a hacksaw, some duct tape and JB Weld; but these guys MAY be the ones:

          Anyway I am hoping to get to the EMPIRE Chapter meet in Brookfield this weekend and hope to talk with some friends about this there.
