46 front brake drum lever

I've got a 46 chief with the spring loaded hollow bolt thingy at the front brake lever on the drum plate.
Do I use a standard cable and how does the cable attach to it? I have not seen one of these completely assembled.
Also is there a proper way to adjust it?

Beautiful picture! The cable is different that the 47 and up cables. This inner cable is about .090" thick, while the 47-53 is about .062"

Do the ends have to be crimped or soldered?
Where's the best place to get an accurate repo of the cable?

solder

I made a bunch of those 396001 ends years ago. To solder them, I wound up using a "soft Silver Solder", #38115. It's a plastic, round package with liquid flux and a long piece of silver solder. Supposedly it's a lot stronger than lead/tin only solder and it holds great. I did mine over 10 years ago, still there!
