I know this is from a year ago, but I recently bought a 1941 Chief frame (771) and am using it to collect parts for a build. Definitely a civilian restoration eventually, but I am using an EU rear fender and front fender. One thing that is confusing at this point is finding the correct fuel tanks. Can someone post a mounted mock-up view of what the correct 40-45 tanks looked like?
Here are a couple I have found looking online, but I don't know if they are correct.
1941 to 1945 Indian Chief Fuel Tanks 1.jpg 1947 Chief Tanks.jpg Just for contrast, I have posted what one seller calls 1947 Chief tanks (gray) and if you compare the instrument panel cut-outs, they are different. The 47 is shorter and has two curves whereas the one identified as 40-45 has one curve and is longer. You can visibly see the curve continues clearly below the reserve fuel channel. I would appreciate it if someone could post the same view of a verified set of 41-45 Chief tanks.
    Thanks.

JR, pretty sure the tanks with the rectangular hole go to a Chief with a generator charging light, '48 and up.

BTW, Kiwi has welded tanks available now, probably more money but worth it.

Ok, but why are the insets different if they are the same? Different years?

...the same? Not certain what you mean, but consider two different speedometers were used post '47 and that could explain why there are two different openings.
