It was installed to the battery box, but had a specific bracket and hardware. Tight fit for sure. In '66 and later they even had an accessory cover made for it that hung below the battery box. More holes My NOS starter relay kit is up at the shop doing my restoration. Going to see if I can get them to fax me a copy of the installation docs, will scan and post.

Don't have the shop bulletin. I'l double check to make sure I don't have a pdf laying around somewhere. I'm betting that Chris has one though

Folks - just to update on this post above. I just noticed that Mike was talking about the circuit breaker mod In my response I was still talking about the starter relay. The circuit breaker had a mount attached to/integral to it. Sorry for any confusion.

I notice you have a grounding strap on the bottom starter stud, is that stock ?
is the other side mounted to the frame?

No, I dont think that is right. The judges at Davenport even gave me a deduction for having the extra grounding strap. I added it with the relay just for good measure. Im going to re route it somehow this year.

Here’s a suggestion. I know it’s not oem but it works well. Over the years my buddies have come to me asking what they can do about this piece of it relay. I installed a miniature plug in relay for them. It measures 1” square and can be mounted anywhere. They fit in the headlight cowl with no problem. One of these little puppies can handle about ten amps and there water tight. Ya mount the base, wire and plug in the relay. Ya throw and extra in your tool kit and your good to go. When it dies you just pull off the relay and plug the new one in. No wiring or screws to touch. Almost like plug and play on the computer. You can get them from any industrial wholesaler dirt cheap. I only found one on mine. Starter to trans stud. 99% Sure that's stock.

I would do this if I couldn't find an original, not an inline fuse like I've seen some folks do. Or just use a 30 amp self resetting breaker.

Lets keep in mind that all your doing is triggering the starter solenod. A control circuit does not require a 30 amp fuse. 5 amp would just be danndy. I wouldn't even conceive of taking a motorcycle and spending the money and energy to restore it and not hiding a fuse some where off the battery.This is just common sense. I know the later bikes had the circuit breakers but I never trusted them. Just my two cents. Bob L

I have that same one your talking about, and that one was always on the bike. I dont know for the life of me why I added that extra one with the relay shown in my picture so that makes one. Also, the regulator needs to be grounded. So that makes two right?
I'm takin' that extra one off, looking at it now, it doesnt make any sense. I must have been drinking that day.
