  • 1960 FLH Police CHP Spec - 5667 Original Miles

    Hello everyone,

The local museum has given us the 1960 FLH Duo Glide they had on display, in order to correct, recommission and return.
The motorcycle was the leading motorcycle in the motorcade of the first president (part of three HD’s - the other two were 61 FL’s)

The costs will be covered by our company as i believe we have a duty to recommission and correct one of the first (if not the first) H-D registered on the island.

During an escort the motorcycle was involved in an accident and the policeman lost his life.

The 3 Panheads were decommissioned with very low miles in favor of the lighter Triumphs (as the Police riders claimed back then).

Unfortunately there had been efforts to repair and “restore” the 1960 FLH, by the museum in 1998, which was done incorrectly.
The bike was painted over the OP

The bike was originally painted the gorgeous hifi blue / birch white and was equipped with the chrome and police option groups.
This motorcycle is amazing whatever we took off is brand new

We managed to take the paint off the left tank to uncover parts of the OP but most importantly the pinstripe

Linkert M74B looks it has never been apart.
Still features the black paint on the body.
      Some rust is visible

We have tried to connect a battery but there were electric shorts in many places.
So we pulled the wiring out and rewired the FLH with the correct wires (material and colours).

          In Summary:
          New Wiring
Repaint in the Correct Hifi Blue / Birch White
Installed the correct gas tank emblems
Straightened Front Engine Guard (bent from the accident)
Linkert M74B Rebuild (Liberty Inc. Float)
New Coil (the OEM one will be fixed soon)
          New front Cylinder Exhaust Lifter
          Cleaned Clutch discs
Rebuild Wagner Lockheed Brake Master Cylinder
Rebuild the rear WL master cylinder
Cleaned rust from gas tanks (vinegar and chain method) - Currently running it with Fuel Filter - Will install OEM line after a few rides.
          Repaired Speedo (c/o John Bordas)
Seat Repaired by Heather's Leathers (in process)

We want to extend a huge thank you to the incredible AMCA forum and its members for going above and beyond in helping us throughout our journey to recommission the Panhead.

The Panhead is a very sweet motorcycle. Already ridden it for 390 miles and the bike feels like brand new. Have not installed new piston rings, have not rebuilt the heads, have not replaced gaskets.....just start and go! The bike had 5667 miles when we received it!

Its with tears in my eyes to hand back this great motorcycle in an enclosure and possibly never to be ridden again. But i guess it belongs to the museum provided its entire greatness and history is showcased.

Your knowledge, guidance, encouragement, and willingness to share your experience made all the difference. Every piece of advice, every answered question, and every bit of support helped bring this project closer to the road where it belongs.

We truly appreciate the time and effort you all gave so generously. The AMCA community represents the very best of what the vintage motorcycle world is about.

Thank you for being such an important part of this journey

Special thanks to Rubone , T. Cotten, Carl Olsen and Matt Olsen

Just outstanding. Love to see it in person. Love the painted motor parts. My '60 came with jugs, heads and D rings painted.
