There's many ways to skin a cat, White1jo!

But if you want to avoid the hazards of a hammer, make an anvil that holds the drum securely so you can apply a press.

(I'd avoid a hydraulic press, however...)

Held upon the press ram by a forktube boot is a motorvalve with the stem cut and ground concave to form the rivet without hammermarks.
The anvil had a similar relief for the rivet head.

Thanks for the help, what kind of press are you using, I have a 1000 lb. Dake hand press that I made anvils for to rivet new brake linings and I couldn't get enough pressure to seat them and they are made of brass, the sprocket rivets are solid steel, do you heat them first?
