But if you want to avoid the hazards of a hammer, make an anvil that holds the drum securely so you can apply a press.
(I'd avoid a hydraulic press, however...)
Held upon the press ram by a forktube boot is a motorvalve with the stem cut and ground concave to form the rivet without hammermarks.
The anvil had a similar relief for the rivet head.

Tom, the meticulous manner by which you effect hand and machine operations has my unreserved respect. The equipment and tooling you have does not adequately reflect the time, effort, persistence, patience and sacrifice you've made that has provided countless hours, days, weeks, months, years and decades to so many of us have enjoyed from the fruits of your labors. Thank you, Tom.Originally posted by T. Cotten View PostThere's many ways to skin a cat, White1jo!

Thanks for the help, what kind of press are you using, I have a 1000 lb. Dake hand press that I made anvils for to rivet new brake linings and I couldn't get enough pressure to seat them and they are made of brass, the sprocket rivets are solid steel, do you heat them first?Originally posted by T.
