  • 64 FL Compensating Sprocket Fit?

I recently purchased a 64 FL that had a belt in the primary.
I have located the parts needed to convert it back to a chain
including a compensating sprocket. It seems that the sprocket
shaft isn't long enough to accommodate the compensating sprocket
without compressing the spring 1/2 inch to start the threads. Not easy.
My Question Is: Was the sprocket shaft longer on models equipped with
compensating sprockets from the factory? Thanks, Gary

No the shafts were not longer. Can you post some pictures with measurements of the spring and nut? All pan parts and no shovel right? Bob AMCA#6738

Does that nut have a grease fitting in the outer end? It is too short compaired to mine. The distance in picture #2 should be 2 1/4" plus a little. This is from a set stamped 55A.

I would say the nut is incorrect or the length has been altered, it just looks too short. I agree with Kerry. Bob

I looked at a picture on J&P's website and the difference in length is quite obvious.
Bob and Kerry, Thank you both for your help. Take care.
