valve guide clearance 47 Fl

I'm rebuilding the top end of my 47 Fl. The harley manual calls for .004 clearance for the valve to guide clearance...but I'm using stainless and heat treated black diamond v twin valves..can I get away with less clearance..does anyone have any experience with these clearances and modern parts.. No. .004 is as tight as you want to go. I would NOT go that tight on the Exhaust! I Always go to the Loose side of the spec.

I have been setting them up at .004 on the intakes and exhausts for years and have had no problems. Always use a coated valve and cast iron guides, never use bronze or amco 45 guides. My 39 EL has over 30,000 miles on it after restoration and still uses a half a quart of oil in 3500 miles.
