I'm rebuilding the top end of my 47 Fl. The harley manual calls for .004 clearance for the valve to guide clearance...but I'm using stainless and heat treated black diamond v twin valves..can I get away with less clearance..does anyone have any experience with these clearances and modern parts.. I have been setting them up at .004 on the intakes and exhausts for years and have had no problems. Always use a coated valve and cast iron guides, never use bronze or amco 45 guides. My 39 EL has over 30,000 miles on it after restoration and still uses a half a quart of oil in 3500 miles.
