How is your 'correct' M5 different, Jdiesel?

      Thanks in advance as always,

      ....Cotten
      PS:
So far, it only appears to me that the somebody ground upon the idle side casting, for some unknown reason...

      Probably to remove hammermarks.

I don't think it is repop but it looks like it was lightly polished and maybe chromed at one time.

With those numbers gone on the left side maybe somebody took a different carb and faked it as a M%.

There are reproduction M88, M51 and M51L Linkerts coming out of Europe and I think they made some M5 versions at the time. I would not call them cheap, say $800.

those obscured letters can result from using too much pressure or aggressive medium and method in your blast cabinet.

Why wasn't the boss with the stamped 4 obliterated, Grease Monkey?

(My ALOX cabinet at average 90 psi would take days to remove that much bronze!)

                PS:
My notes show only M5s had a 4 stamp there.

Here is a comparison of the model stamp,

Dear Tom, do you think two of those M5s have dots after the numbers? Some of the M21s have a punch mark after the number to show the idle hole has been slightly enlarged after some early backfiring and fires. The M5 would also have been new on the 61s so maybe also received some mild tinkering?

I don't have the reference handy, Steve,

But I seem to remember something about one of the idle bleeds opened a bit more by the factory, which was eventually applied to all, and then the dot eliminated.

We may never know for certain,
