That is a beautiful '47. I like the post war Harley-Davidsons as they were so popular in their day and reflect the enthusiasm of motorcyclists in an America that was at it's best. Also, it is so similar to the 1948 BT (which I have) and makes me love them even more. I do notice that the seat looks like an Indian Chumee seat with the square pommel area, unlike the H-D Buddy seat with a more rounded nose. . . More nit picking, but that's what you gotta' think when you look at other people's bikes. . . Just don't say it out loud when the owner is standing there.

Plenty of issues with this one for a fairly low serial number '47. Footboard pads should be painted steel on early production. Those plug wire caps did not yet exist, toolbox should be low mount, spotlights are wrong type. Plug for speedo lock hole and filler for trip stem both missing, kickstand is later production. I'll look for more after my dinner....

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but that guy also has an auction for a 71 FX with an aftermarket speedometer he claims is 500 original miles and paint. He must have had a collection or museum, because he's selling a lot of unique low miles bikes. I'm not going to disparage him, but as always, buyer beware.

Geez, Like to see your notes Mark. eBay seller sent me a few more pictures and a very nice close up of the motor number, looks good. M 35 Linkert. Goodyear tires, not Coker. Clearly see the 7 stamped on the engine case near the rear mount to frame. Probably should not post motor # here but if you want to see it send me your cell # on a pm.

I see the threaded intake inserts have been worked on with the rear cylinder head insert being retained with a Allen head cap screw. Nice motorcycle in general.
Does anyone know if there is any information and data on the engine and transmission build?

Just my 2 cents. The 3 expensive items I see are the primary cover, the exhaust "Y" pipe, and real rubber pads for the brake and clutch pedals. Also, the passenger peg brackets would have no holes except for the pegs themselves. And I'm unsure whether those pegs had closed ends like the ones on the bike, or the hollow style. Also curious as to the whether the dash cover is the 1st year only style. The pics don't show if the tombstone tail light is '47, or if the rear fender has the hinge mounted correctly. Obviously, this is all stuff that decides whether it's a judgeable unit or a nice restoration. What I do like is the fit of the stainless trim on the fenders. All the repop pieces have radii that never, for the most part, match the curve of the fenders. It appears as thought the rocker box castings are correct for '47, but a pic looking up from the push rod covers would tell the tale.
