Nice looking 47 on eBay

That is a beautiful '47. I like the post war Harley-Davidsons as they were so popular in their day and reflect the enthusiasm of motorcyclists in an America that was at it's best. Also, it is so similar to the 1948 BT (which I have) and makes me love them even more. I do notice that the seat looks like an Indian Chumee seat with the square pommel area, unlike the H-D Buddy seat with a more rounded nose. . . More nit picking, but that's what you gotta' think when you look at other people's bikes. . . Just don't say it out loud when the owner is standing there.Eric Smith

I agree, Eric!
I almost never look at ebay, but I had to see if it was one I did:

But I never would have perforated the sparkwire retainer clip for the choke control stud,
And I would never have left the manifold rough-blasted brass.
(Even though the judges probably wouldn't notice anyway.)

Plenty of issues with this one for a fairly low serial number '47. Footboard pads should be painted steel on early production. Those plug wire caps did not yet exist, toolbox should be low mount, spotlights are wrong type. Plug for speedo lock hole and filler for trip stem both missing, kickstand is later production. I'll look for more after my dinner....Robbie Knight Amca #2736

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but that guy also has an auction for a 71 FX with an aftermarket speedometer he claims is 500 original miles and paint. He must have had a collection or museum, because he's selling a lot of unique low miles bikes. I'm not going to disparage him, but as always, buyer beware.Last edited by joe fxs fxr; Yesterday, 09:14 PM.AMCA #41287

I must apologize rather than late edit, Folks.Originally posted by T. Cotten View Post(Even though the judges probably wouldn't notice anyway.)

Certainly they would spot the manifold; Its in Palmer's.
Sorry..

PS: All of these 'issues' would be trivial if it wasn't 99point priced.AMCA #776

Yes, but these are pretty easy corrections. Trying to see if bull neck frame on this and any big problems yet unseen. Thanks in advance for any more thoughts on this bike.Originally posted by Rubone View PostPlenty of issues with this one for a fairly low serial number '47.
