  • VL Gas Valve Sealing

Hi folks, just wondering what's the preferred special sauce for sealing the gas valve threads when installing into the tanks? I thought I'd read somewhere that Red Kote works really well, and that makes sense given the product that it is, but I can't find where I read that. As always, any and all info appreciated.

I use EZ Turn too. Expensive, but one tube is a lifetime supply.

You mean you use EZ Turn to seal the threads? Interesting...

I use EZ Turn in Indian Brass petcocks. Works great. And yes, a tube lasts a lifetime.

Thanks everyone. I should've worded my post better. Not that it should make any difference as they still thread into the tank fitting, but I was referring to the petcock style of valve. I've lapped them before nickel plating and confirmed no leaks using a bit of EZ turn on the cones. Now just need to seal the threads as I screw them into the tank fitting.
I've got both EZ Turn and the Loctite 565 on hand so decisions decisions...

Dear Peter, I use plumber's PTFE tape when screwing the fuel valves into the tank.

Tape is good, but pipe dope won't break off inside.

Gasoila is good with today's gas. I use EZ Turn for many nongas applications. I have attempted to use EZ Turn in areas with gas contact including sealing petcocks, after a couple of weeks the gas would eat thru it and the start weeping again.

Thanks Steve. I hadn't thought of that. Makes sense it'd work given it's pretty much the same as the Loctite 565, just not 'liquid' as such.

Got the tanks back from pinstriping and have the Loctite on hand so I'll head down that path I think.
