Thanks Peter! I just got back from Antique Cycle Works. Mathew hooked me up with the castings for the linkage parts. He also sent me home with a complete assembly to use as a copy. I also bought CD's for the complete parts books and brochures. Also found a left spiral. He has a lot of Thor parts, both original and reproduction. Can't wait to get out to the shop tonight!

I am still trying to figure out what year exactly mine is. Artist renditions have the 1912 model W paint job as having a "Thor V" on the tank. For 1913, they show just "Thor". Mine has "Thor 5". The Chandler bike uses Roman Numerals. I don't know what 1914 looks like. In looking at the parts book, most parts were interchangeable between the two years, but in the parts that I needed for the clutch mechanism, they carry different part numbers. Also, the mechanism is different if you ordered a two speed hub, as the top of the clutch lever had a "T" instead of the knob. To shift gears, you turn the T, which has a shaft running through the handle. This would attach to linkage at the bottom of the handle that runs back to the two speed hub. The example that Matt loaned me is this variety.

Also, the way the clutch lever mounted differed from 1912 to 1913. For 1912, there was a steel bracket that mounted to the left case just above the clutch (like Chandler's and mine). For 1913, this bracket was eliminated, and the pivot point was a stud that protruded from the engine case. The cases also carry a different part number. I don't know if this was the only change.

So, my guess at this point is that my bike is 1912, but I don't know.

If I have came up with any info that is incorrect, please let me know. I am a rookie when it comes to Thor's, and I am sure there are some very knowlegeable folks lurking!

PS, I think (but I'm not 100% on this) that they changed the rocker arms around '13 or '14 from stamped sheetmetal to forgings. That might help you to date your motor.

Ive noticed in the NEW 1912 catalog, {two thor models in 1912 early and late} It shows the ser. number plate being heart-shaped. My big single is W238 i think is 1913 , round ser. number plate!! also the compression rel. is in a different position in the catalog renderings.. Do you have a round disc?? I have most of the clutch rel. levers. I have a 1914 A motor,real nice for trade for a early 1912 single or twin..Mike amc #756

Mine has the stamped style rockers. The serial number plate is round. S/N is W674.
