My brother finally gave me our grandfathers beemer after no interest from his kids or grandkids. 47,000 miles on it , last registered in 1979. It’s leaving its longtime home in socal for a new life in taxachusettes. I did get it running during a visit back in 2008 and that’s it. Very odd kicking that bike after 40 years kicking Harley’s, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I know that I’m replying to my own post but I don’t really know how do this . Working on it.

JC, You will love that bike.Originally posted by Jcadams View Post
They are a blast to ride and easy to maintain. I built a 1976 R90/6 for my father when he retired many years ago and he put over 100,000 miles on it.
I have many great memories riding the backroads and road tripping with him on my 48 Pan. Very cool that it was your grandfathers.

Congratulations on your acquisition, glad your brother finally let you be the caretaker. Old BMWs are a lot of fun. It might take you a bit to get used to the quirky handling too!
Here is my '55 R69. I have a '65 R69S and a '80 R100RS mixed in with the H-D and Brit stuff... DCP_2726.JPGRobbie Knight Amca #2736

Your BMW looks good looking up from ground level, John. I wish I had been more open minded when I was younger because I overlooked a lot of motorcycles that I now appreciate. The BMW is one of those and I regret two early BMWs that I turned my back on. . . . Well, vision is not a super-power I possess.Eric Smith

Great story John. I feel for your brother who was hoping his children and grandchildren would be inclined to keep the tradition going on his side of the family. But you now have that opportunity. Enjoy the adventure and the ride and share it with your family. You never know when someone gets the bug.
This is a photo of my grandson on my 1967 BMW R69S riding a turn on the Tail of the Dragon this past June. Note the sparks flying from under the bike. Oh to be 25 years old again and still lean into those turns like this! I was following in a more upright position with a slight old man’s lean. I want my grandson to own my R69S soon so I can continue to enjoy his passion for old motorcycles. I hope I have made a small contribution to his passion. That’s satisfaction enough for me.
