My brother finally gave me our grandfathers beemer after no interest from his kids or grandkids. 47,000 miles on it , last registered in 1979. It’s leaving its longtime home in socal for a new life in taxachusettes. I did get it running during a visit back in 2008 and that’s it. Very odd kicking that bike after 40 years kicking Harley’s, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I know that I’m replying to my own post but I don’t really know how do this . Working on it.

Congratulations. Nice story good to hear you are keeping it in the family. I had a R airhead once (wish I still had that bike) Great machines. ENJOY!

They are a blast to ride and easy to maintain. I built a 1976 R90/6 for my father when he retired many years ago and he put over 100,000 miles on it.
I have many great memories riding the backroads and road tripping with him on my 48 Pan. Very cool that it was your grandfathers.

Congratulations on your acquisition, glad your brother finally let you be the caretaker. Old BMWs are a lot of fun. It might take you a bit to get used to the quirky handling too!
            Here is my '55 R69. I have a '65 R69S and a '80 R100RS mixed in with the H-D and Brit stuff... DCP_2726.JPG
