Correct me if I'm wrong. But the AMCA is not a club in the true fashion. It is a non-profit org that sells subscriptions. The org cannot make a profit, but it can raise money to pay for programs and such it supports. That would include salaries of folks who provide a service to the org, like mangers, directors, etc. The subscriptions pay for those provided services. They also pay for the magazine. At the end of the day, the money in should equal the money out with some allowed in a bank account to meet IRS regs. So, the example given of somebody getting paid $80K to run the museum, they can do things like sell copies of literature and use the proceeds to pay that salary.

Nobody gets to vote for anything in the AMCA if I am not mistaken. Only at the chapter level do you vote on how to spend chapter money, etc.. I know I've never been asked to vote on anthing by the Mother Ship. I see there is a National Board, although the website link does not work. Is the National Board elected by the chapters? Do they have any power or do they just make suggestions?

It' ain't a club, guys. It's a business. The only vote you get is to send in your dues once a year or not.
    Regards,
    Rob Sigond

Boy you got that right, BUSINESS.

No matter, at this point, its pure entertainment to me. If I renew my Membership in 2009, it'll be just to watch the continuing soap opera. Its like a treasure hunt of sorts. Follow the money trail to the big 'X' on the ground (or the next Indian Torque Four)

      Just teasing...or am I? Hrdly

          $80.000.00 for part-time work...not bad.

Well if need be we can always sell the Torgue Four to pay his salary. Oh, wait a minute, the economy thing...probably won't get that much for it now.

Your poor wife...that's tough going...having to deal with all those other peoples mistakes.

For what it's worth, charging members for copied technical information is absurd. The National should be there to represent the members but never since my membership nor my time being a chapter officer has anyone on the national board asked for my input or included me on any voting process. Many of you have it correct, it is not a club anymore it is a business and we as members have no say but to pay our dues. I think Chris says it best in regards to the library.

It's my understanding that it took $50,000.00 to set up this on-line library. I'll apologize if I am wrong about that price. My wife and I bought a very nice scanner/copier for about $180.00 and it does a superb job. I think the library should be a place where members can send scans of their own literature and make it available to the rest of the membership for free. The library would simply be a place where these scans are deposited and members could download at their convenience. How hard would that be? We almost have that now since I can post pictures to the site and copy pictures that are posted on this site.

So, we paid $50G's for a library, $80G's for some guy to sit around a museum, and $400G's for God knows what. We're getting screwed man !

I could not have said it better exeric but you did miss the point that we are now tax exempt so we have that going for us. But then again that was at the cost of a good portion of the national funds which went to support the new organization which I have not figured out yet what purpose it is serving.

A several months ago, I believe, our president, { correct me if I am wrong Rocky }, purchased, a small fleet of Indians from my good friend, an Ohio resident. I do not know whether the funds were personal funds, used for a personal possession purchase, or organization funds, used for museum bikes. Just curious.... Paps

Actually, if they added a piece to the forum and called it the Gallery, members could post pictures, scans, whatever they wanted and others could download them. That would be a nice service. Not a money making service, but nice. Many other sites have such a feature.

But even if you cannot get the AMCA to add it to the site, anybody that wanted to volunteer, could set up another site on a photo site like Photobucket and everyone would just post their stuff there.

Send them to me. I'll put them up on FHP. S&S Cycle works with me on just about everything I ask for. I don't think they would mind a new category on their forum. Not trying to steal away a good idea here. I truely believe it belongs here. Just presenting another option. Heck...JKE might even go for it on IMT. Curt and Chris may not mind hosting it as well.

Hrdly.....Mine are just about all grown up. Well...at least 7 of them are. I still have one in the nest. The grandkids are a blast but as with you, I love em just as much when their parents pick them up. Ha Ha. I ribbed ya because your statement gave me an opportunity to do so. All in fun Bro. Paps

                            Pa,

If you can get a place to upload tech info going on FHP, or if John gets it on his site or Curt/Chris' site...

I got some stuff I'll add.

I am not sure if I will remain a member of this "club" for much longer. Check out the thread under Judging, and you will see one of the many reasons I will drop out of here.

Yes Eric, I believe you are right. This post from Steve Slocombe clearly says it has cost the Club $50,000 to set up the on-line library. I still think its a wonderful idea, if it were free to members, as we've already paid for the purchase of the literature they are offering. It is amazing to me that after a year and 50K, we have this quality of library. In the past year, there have no substantive additions to the library as far as I can tell. What is on there at this point could have been scanned on a Saturday afternoon with a $150 scanner...so where has our 50K gone????? I think enough is enough - we cannot keep handing out huge sums of money on a handshake. If we contracted somebody for fifty thousand dollars worth of work, then we should get 50K worth of work. If we continue with this practice of "bad business", the Club will end up bankrupt and we'll lose the great Club that we once had.

I have been working on stuff with my new HP6480 Scanner........

Cost 54 US dollars on ebay.......

Works great and saves items in a seperate folder and in PDF format.

I am working at scanning the reprint of the Assembly Instructions for the WLA into it.

Will see how it goes once I am finished.
