you are right, I will talk to our web people and see if they can make it mandatory to fill in the signature with valid info. already trying to make it so before you get on the forum your membership is checked. I also notify the web people about any spammer I spot to get them removed, until we can get this fixed

      Agree with Slocombe

Of all the comments by all the members on this thread topic...everyone has a good opinion and a right to offer it. I commend Steve Slocombe for his comments. 1) The AMCA as with any organization is run by member volunteers, most of which have day jobs, families and other commitments in higher priority ranking than our individual hobby of the vintage motorcycling sport. 2) Turbulence is accurate. All organizations have high and low periods in their history...but the fact remains if an organization has a great membership and a great purpose it will continue forward...I believe we all have and will continue to do so. 3) Slocombe as a board member asked for continued input. He stated that the board will address the topic in Davenport... The message has been delivered, recieved and is now subject to some course of action.

I have served on many boards throughout my life and never recieved a penny from any of them. All board posititions require much personal time, the ability to listen, understand and collectively move the club in the proper direction with the information and resources available at that time. There is no way to meet the expectations of all members. There is also the interesting phenomenon of how few people will take their prospective turn and serve on any board. Today's society has a propensity to hammer anyone who serves in office from the Federal level down to the local school board leaving us with the problem of who the H_ _ _ wants the job?

When you funnel the whole deal down we all have to remember that we had consistant very strong membership growth in the last few years. The membership has to have the opportunity to be served, retained and become active in events, this forum etc....

Bottom line is we are a "volunteer member organization with over 4,500 members". I would submit most of our problems are pretty good problems to have, to address, to improve on and to go to the next level with?

      Just one out of 4,500+

Dear Eric, I've been on this forum a long time, but have been trying not to post too many off-the-cuff comments to run up my count. I'm the Board Member with responsibility for our Virtual Library project, and hope to have a statement about this soon. I don't know the details of the loss of photographs from this Website, but I can try and research the problems and get a response out later. I hope the pictures are not lost to the Club, as we should pick them up as part of the Virtual Library from those members wishing to donate them. I'm at Davenport if you want to talk. Best regards.

Im not sure that having names and locations are the best idea here on the internet. If we allow anybody outside the club see where we live and what we own we could be inviting them to rip us off by leaving this trail to our door. what we need is the ability to use a username but if we want others to have access to our name and location they must be a member of the club to view our member list or print a club roster every year and let the members look it up offline. I think a use policy for this website would be great if it banned spam but any members that spam us need to be expelled from our club. I would hope that our members dont do this. also I would like to see a box to vote on a post to see if it needs removed by us if we feel it is not to our standards.

if you look at your post, you will see it tells what state you live in. and your username does not appear in the roster, so nobody knows who you are anyway.
most of the members that replied, do not have a problem putting their name and location(state) in their signature. if a members name appears in the post, maybe some of the dirt throwing would not happen and we could get back to sharing information and friendship

                  As I mentioned before,

I have no problem using my real name here...

As far as security.........just posting your real name and location won't hurt anything.

If you leave your belonging out in the open..yea...somethings gonna happen.

Common sense and good securtiy measures on your part comes to play..wanna keep your toys? Secure them...

IF somebody can get thru my locked fence--then thru my locked shed--then thru the chains securing the bikes WITHOUT waking up my dog and me,
then get the bike/bikes out past the gate, without either my dog or shotgun going off.........Well, I guess my securtiy was not up to snuff....and ya can keep it.

In addition to the safeguards George mentioned, you can put one of those baby monitors in the garage and the receiver in the bedroom. If you detect something amiss, you can introduce the intruders to Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson.

And I've added my AMCA # and address also. It should be a requirement - non-members can still gain the information but should they be able to post?

my bedroom is right above the garage, so no moniter is needed. and my personal choice if I hear someone in there is to start spraying little piece's of 9MM lead out the window,(I can fix holes in the fender later)
non members cannot post, but until we have a way to check a member number before allowing someone on, we still get the occasional spammer(working on that)

                            board members

You guys seem to be all worked up about the wrong thing. There's been more discussion about a member useing his name then how $400,000 was taken from the treasury. When will the B of D open up with info? When will we get to vote for our B of D? How much is the 18 month trial alliance really costing? How long will the "permanant" aggreement be for, and at what future costs? With AACA and AMCA members getting free addmission to the museum how does the AMCA plan to profit from this aggreement? Who's left to pay admission that even has interest in cars or MCs? How much is the person being paid to answer questions and do research with literature being kept at the museum? The AACA library would have stored the club literature for the AMCA, they do this for several other major clubs. It would be safe and they have skilled librarians to do research. The cost may have been $1000-$2000 a year. How many of the B of D actually were involved hands on in the decision to enter into this agreement? If you all remember the first thing Mr. Gagan did was raise the dues, because the club needed money. How long has this alliance plan been in place? Look how many good AMCA people "retired" from their positions recently!!

                              G'day Steve.
I'm more than happy to assist with moderation where required, in line with the new AMCA forum guidelines.
I'm not sure what software is needed to do this from afar, but if I can assist, just yell. I have an obvious Indian leaning, and spend a lot of time here, so use me where you can. That being said, and as stated in a prior post, I go away with the military now and then, so I can either support another moderator, or need some one to stand in when needed.
I know there's other responsible users on the list who will offer their assistance to clean the site of idiot spammers and keep it civil but still interesting (promote fair debate) as well.
Get back to me if I can be of assistance to this area of the club.

                              Best wishes all.
