be careful, do your research. take someone who knows what they're looking at to go over it with you before you shell out cash. lots of people have overpaid for something that didn't turn out to be as advertised.

Know exactly what you are looking at. The 36 E models had many running changes. Many parts changed designs as many as 5 times during their short production. Take a 36 E Expert with you to look at it. An original paint, correct machine will fetch well over $100,000.00

Patrick, for the very knowledgeable people on here to be able to help you, you need better pictures. Pictures 15 feet away won't help you. You need close up pictures of the frame, dash, engine serial #'s, engine gear cover, heads, front fork, transmission, etc. Good luck.

I'm no expert but the tanks should be two tone in that color combination from what I have seen. I almost bought one in the exact combination a few years ago. Guy was asking $125K but had hard time getting that and ended up selling at $95K on the Mark Walls restoration and low vin #. It might have been special ordered that way but in order to be correct you would have to have documentation to that effect. There are plenty here who would know for sure but that is a major deduction if not correct and hurt the value as such. Still a worthy bike and good luck!

'36 E tanks are solid color with a pinstripe. Fenders are two toned.

So was this to distinguish E from EL? Like I said I'm no expert but I had never heard that before and I haven't seen it in much literature but it is good to know. Was that a 36 thing only or was it true for other years/models? Is the bike shown an E? I didn't see the vin shown or did I miss it.

The E and EL models are identical with the compression ratio being the only difference.
