I am a bit dissapointed myself. Makes me wonder what the members would do if the organization was in financial trouble. Would they just let it collaspe? I sure hope not. I felt more input would have come from the topic. Out of all the members only a small decimals worth of the membership even commented. To me, this, other than pledges, is the largest dissapointment. I appreciate the responces submitted. Hats off to those who did respond whether for or against. Come on members!!! Put your 2 cents in !! There is still time left yet. We'll see! Paps

First off, the AMCA is not, as I read the financial statement in any financial difficulty at all.
Secondly, yes there is a place for a bike raffle to raise money , preferably for a worthy charitable purpose, but it has to be properly organized acording to the laws of the particular state or place where it is being held. And such a raffle with proper prizes and tickets and such is not what you guys on this thread have been talking about.
Thirdly, small 50-50 draws are usually tolerated by most jurisdictions because it is too difficult to monitor them and the amount of proceeds which can go awry. Large ones, like you seem to be trying to start - without the aproval of the AMCA Board of directors, as I understand it, are probably illegal in many places.
Surely you can think of some more positive and legal way to help the AMCA.

AFJ........No one suggested the AMCA had financial problems. It doesn't. Originally the topic was presented as you suggested the raffle should be. It eventually led to a 50/50 as an experiment by jb. Yes... the whole idea must be santioned by the AMCA. All legalities must be dealt with. jb is dealing with the legalities of the 50/50 and making contact with all personal for authorizations. If he doesn't get authorization he will return all the contributions. He stated this many replies back. Absolutely nothing ilegal is going to take place. I'm delighted you brought this up and I really appreciate you comments. Thanks for speaking up. I wish everyone else would put their 2 cents in also.
How else can the organizations leaders decide whether or not a raffle or raffles is worth the effort if they don't receive enough feedback from it's members concerning it? The 50/50 is designed as a way to help provide a clue also. Paps

Thank-you AL and Pa.
As both of you are dead right. I thank-you both, for your input. I have heard back from Pete and I am still waiting to here back fron Dennis. Some interesting points have been made and they have merit, They are being addressed. As it stands only three folks from this site made a pledge not counting myself. My only goal was stated in earlier posts, I feel this would be a good way to gage for or against support of such a raffle. And I still feel that funds could be raised for a specific prize without mass marketing and fifteen hands in the kitty. I certainly meant no offense to anyone! Maybe my youthful energy would be better served in my local chapter and The out of state chapters I subscribe to. To those whom I have offended I hereby formally apoligize. As it stands right now, no one has said to me in any type of correspondence "Jb" Please return any funds raised on be half of the AMCA National Club.

Thanks Old Dude
Thanks Clete, I recieved yours donation today and as we spoke on the phone I to am looking forward to Eustis, I will get your tickets and reciept in the mail tomorrow. Come on folks we got 31 days til Eustis but not that many days left to turn tickets around and get them back to you. Not to worry each ticket that goes into the drawing pouch has a name and phone number on it. Incase you forget yours or don't get it back from the postman in time. Thanks again Clete, I appeciate your support.

Bike Raffle
This thread has turned out to be very busy. There are probably others like me that have been waiting for the nay-sayers to get it all out,
I am very interested in an old bike raffle (everybody has room for one more.....), not so much so for a cash raffle but I will pitch in for 5 tickets as a show of support.
I would LOVE to attend Eustis but it's not in the plans this year. Hopefully I'll meet some 'ol boys at the Borrego run.
Good Luck in the hunt.
Dave
