First off they wont let you on the property, and after spending about 15 hours on the phone with these guys , here is what I believe happened- the hub in shrewsbury, mass processes over a million packages a day, they tell me thier loss ratio at that facility is .001% well if you are doing over a million a day- I guess you are messing up on over a hundred a day, now these hundred packages that fell off the conveyor and damaged the label to it cannot be scanned anymore, they go into a 53ft box trailer, so if your package went into the trailer on the 1st and your scheduled deliver was on the 3rd you cannot even report it missing until the 4th, by the time they go look for it its 500 deep in the trailer behind it, when the trailer is full they haul it to a facility in kentucky where all the overage is hauled - thats right they call it overage, not LOST not MISSING its overage, where they auction it off and there is not a damn thing you can do about it and they simply DONT CARE! UPS IS MAKING MILLIONS RIPPING PEOPLE OFF! And if you ask them about paying you for your loss, well if there is no insurance because the women working at the store that was charging $4.00 per package to ship stuff thru there ups account, she was too busy to fill out the paperwork, the line s are blank, no description, no value , no insurance - no nothing, and not a damn thing I can do about it except I WILL NEVER USE U.P.S. AGAIN!

Dewey, sounds like your getting the shaft twice, once from the seller who was too negligent to ship the frame to you properly insured and wont accept the responsibility for his error in failure to deliver the frame to you (unless you as the purchaser were to accept responsibility for shipping) second by U.P.S. for failure to deliver the frame. I would be talking to B. Scott Davis CEO of UPS.

So now you’re blaming the lady that was too busy to put Ins. on it instead of blaming the shipper of the frame who should have put Ins. on it & made sure the paper work was filled out. UPS has lost some items I’ve shipped but when there’s a payout coming (Ins) someone always digs up that lost part. A lot of folks buy expensive items for their pride & joy & a lot are too cheap to buy Ins. Did you request Ins???

I never got the chance to ask for insurance, but I do have a copy now of the original paperwork with blank spaces , where the value and description go and upon talking to the young lady who dropped it off, told me that once she told the women it was being billed to a third party, the women told her the rest of that imformation was not needed, the young lady didnt know any better believing the women was correct, after all she plays the organ at the church!

I just shipped a frame from colorado to florida thru ups. Didn't have a problem and was able to track it on every received and departure scan. But then i packed it bomb proof with 3 securely tapped cardboard address's on it and i had insurance on it with signature required. Maybe i got lucky? I still don't like ups though but fed-ex wanted another 55 bucks on top of 170.00 for handling..Ups was cheaper than the usps as well. I left it up to the buyer on which way to go.AMCA #765

Sorry Len, no bolts. Call Cleat at Old Dude and tell him you want the bolts with no markings. He has them. As far as price for shipping. Not much more than a bare frame do to the fact that they square off the measurements. Your just paying for the extra weight. What's your frame worth? Bob L

I've not gone as far as Bob, but I've shipped frames via UPS w/no problems. I securely cover every exposed area that could either be damaged or cause damage and wrap all the frame tubes also, using cardboard and lots of tape. Though they can be recognized as frames it would be very hard to tell exactly what kind of frame they are, though the size and weight are probably a giveaway that they are either old Indian or Harley. Looking at Bob's box, though, it probably takes less time to build that than it does to do it the way I have.
I believe the greatest security comes from having enough insurance to cover the worth of the frame plus extra to cover costs trying to find another one like it. Not placing insurance is "penny wise but pound foolish". And requiring a signature upon delivery is well worth it also.Lonnie Campbell #9908

FRAME FOUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the help of some club members it turned up forsale, in the middle of the country, not that far from where U.P.S. Last did a scan as it was loaded on the big brown truck, Rear fender is GONE!, MISSING . And at this time still back tracking the hands it passed thru! THANKS TO THOSE WHO HELPED ! More info to come as the investigation moves forward! So now I am trying to locate the rusty, But Solid rear 1914 fender! anybody seen one forsale recently??

Wow, that is great news. Your lucky you found it. If there was a cockroach involved, hopefully they will use bug killer on the sticky slimy creature.
Am facing the same thing, have to get a frame to a friend from Hawaii to the mainland as this will be handled ocean freight then surface and do not want to ship it raw or exposed for some sticky finger to cockroach it.
Bob, I copied your image of how you boxed yours. Want to ask if you could please post a end shot of the box, or if easier, are the ends/sides all flush on the exteriors surface? These look like 1' X 3" or 4" for the box frame,
Do you use drywall screws to seal the box? That is what my plan was as these can be removed and used over again to reuse the built shipping box.
Shipping a frame this way makes a lot of sense, especially in my case as I have a lot of parts that are going with it to be stripped of chrome and parkerized. With all the extra space one could stuff the engine and transmission inside the box if need be.
Thank you for posting the one image as your work has cleared my minds eye of what needs to be done for the build of this.
