Old Dealers web sites?

Does anyone know of a web site where you can find old 1930's-40's Indian dealers locations and names? I have looked all over the web and its amazing how little is to be found on Indians in general, except the same stuff over and over.

well if you have to get a list together yourself you can start with this one---kenneth kirkpatric in easton maine. last i knew his widow was still alive and had a 53 roadmaster chief with original paint seafoam green. it had every option except a windshield----she hated windshields. she calls everybody "chum" not sure if she is still alive or not. she had some really awsome photo albums. the chief always had a dealer tag on it and she had never registered it. it was the last one her husband had in 1953. he was a triumph dealer also and she had two triumph 250's new in the crates and a lot of indian parts. i bought everything she had that was harley----her name was polly kirkpatrick and easton is north of houlton maine. i think the bike had about 4500 miles on it when i saw it----oh yeah---al gore hadn't invented the internet yet when he was a dealer !!!!!

I was thinking about making a basic web site with a list of indian dealers , locations and names that were throughout the USA. Its a shame someone hasnt started a web site yet?

Why not start it here? Have Keven make it one of them sticky things so it always at the top of the page. Members could just leave what they know and in the end some one could index it. Isn't that what this site is all about? Bob L

Vern Goodwin's father in Lincoln Nebraska was an Indian dealer and had contracts with the hiway patrol and police department. Vern is in good health and has a lot of history in his shop, not to mention one of the top sidecar specialists in the country and an active Indian enthusiast. You can find his name in the white pages.

As far as I know the 53 in Easton is long gone ! My wife lived three doors away from that very nice old lady ! Also someone got the Ward Hendersonsnin Limestone Maine another nice trove gone !!

do you by chance have any pictures of either bike? the guy with the henderson had barrels of nos parts for hendersons too. i had pictures but my ex wife threw them all away

There was Schmitt Cycles in Orlando, Florida on Colonial Drive. Schmitt was the Indian, to Puckett's Harley Davidson. The old man kept a 1941 Sport Scout into the early 80's but I don't know what happened to it. His sons stayed in the business with Honda and other brands. I think you could find a lot of these dealer locations in the back of "The Motorcyclist" magazines. There was usually a state by state listing of dealers for the benefit of touring riders.

I roadraced with Mr. Schmitt's son Mark. I had no idea they were the original Orlando Indian dealer, as they were selling Suzukis by then. Way before my time. I think the Schmitts also owned the MG dealership across the street.

I remember the old Puckett's shop on South BOT down by Interstate 4 back in the late 70s. They had an early XR-750 racer chassis in the front window. Now I think it's a strip bar.

this is a great idea. hope it gets going so I can add my 2 cents.

I am now working on the excell spread sheet. i will gather all the info and soon I will have a web site where you can click on the state, dealers names and than click on the address and it will take you to a google map where you can view where the location once was. You can also view pictures of what was the building at one time. So please, if you have names and address , etc. As much as possible I will get it all in there.
