New seat

Seats! Not a big deal, but it means a lot to me. I was born a gear-head, and my first love was cars. However, the car hobby means drive train (huge effort), exterior (maybe more effort), and interior which is nit-picking beyond belief. I came to my senses (thanks to Johnny Kirkland, chopper rider) and discovered motorcycles and didn't look back. I do all of my own work with the exception of top ends, plating, and interiors (seats). That is a huge deal because very few people can make a seat for a motorcycle. . . Sit on a hard-tail frame, or steel seat pan and you'll know what I mean. .. . .And, a seat compliments the motorcycle.

Thanks, Paul. I didn't take any direct pics of the seat in that this seat is just a seat. Also, I'm not really thrilled with it's quality so I didn't want to say much more about it. It did wonders for the overall look of the Scout and I'm happy about that, but some time in the future I will want to put a better quality seat on the bike. As I said, the interior of a car is a huge deal but a motorcycle interior is just a dang seat. In that respect, it should be as nice as you can get and there are quality seat makers in our hobby. I'll just have to wear this one out to justify a new one, but my butt will most likely wear out before that Scout seat will

I like Heather's and have 3 of their seats. The Scout seat was a deal I'm kind of stuck with so I'll have to learn to love it. Thanks for the post DEEBS.

Eric here are some pictures of an HD seat I recovered (Came with my Indian). And a picture of my Indian today with real Indian seat pan I bought that was professionally restored.

That is funny, Paul. I did the same thing years ago, but my seat pan was a genuine Indian 'Chumme' seat that I recovered for a 1941EL. It looked okay for awhile, but it didn't hold up very long. You just can't do better than a professional that knows leather, how to form it, and all the hard learned knowledge that goes with saddle making. Great pictures, and love your Indian.

...so Eric, that Scout must be the project you've been working on over the past few years? It's awesome! Are you finished ...besides the seat I mean?

Your work restoring these old bikes is really top notch, you should be proud!

Thanks for the kind words, Harry. I still have to finish the wiring, and plumbing which is a feeble excuse for not wrapping it up. I had a big set back late last year and that put me behind on the stuff I really enjoy doing. I've been sidetracked on my '51FL and have neglected the Sport Scout, but I believe a person should do what they want to do, and feel like doing; so, that's what I'm doing. Speaking of bikes, how are you doing on your 101. I've never had the pleasure of riding a 101 but people that own them say the 101 is their favorite motorcycle. Anxious to hear your impressions when you get yours on the road. . . But don't rush
