Peace of mind! But it's not clear to me if you found the nut inside the oil sump, or wedged somewhere outside the sump??

I think between finding the missing cotter pin and the crud found in the pan all your efforts were not a waste of time! Happy New Year!

I'm sure the feeing you had when finding it was a big sigh of relief. It probably was a good thing in a way, as Harry said, as if that nut on the pump would have backed all the way off it would have been a lot worse. At least you can give everything a good cleaning and a look-see. I am also sure you weren't the only one on here that learned a valuable lesson. It is a Happy New Year for you now.
