Can anybody tell me the specific differences between the 1948 style sidestand and the 1950-53 style sidestands?
Also, I have seen a few of these with a threaded "J" bolt that wraps around the frame and comes up thru the mount. When was this style used?

Per service shot 190 it gave directions how to add J bolt for early '48 bikes.

        I have the a 48 style on my 47 and also have a 51.
My stands look identical.I don't know about j bolt.
I recall some posts about the difference being the mount pad for the leg having a slightly different angle on the flat and hole with same leg.

Tom, That is exactly what Todd at Greers told me, the mount pad is just a little different.

            "Number 190
            February 23 , 1948

The jiffy stand bracket may be reinforced to prevent breakage
by anchoring it to the frame lower tube by means of a "J"
shaped 3/8" bolt, nut and plain washer.

The brackets must be drilled for the "J" bolt (.386 diameter
drill) as shown on the sketch below:

Write in to the Indian Service Department for the number of
J bolts, nuts and washers you need for installation on
the early 348 models which did not have the jiffy stand bracket
            reinforcement.

These parts will be shipped to you no charge."
