Ya know...I hadn't thought about that! The Chief I'm talking about is hooked to a sidecar. I could put a petcock "down there" and drain it quite nicely. Plus, it would be seldom seen and out of the way! Wow! Thanks!Originally posted by pisten-bully View Post...some folks that run total loss motors will install a petcock in place of the crankcase level drain plug (the upper one) in order to make it easier to check how much oil is in the sump (not too much, not too little is the goal), and if you're wet sumping it would make it a whole lot simpler to drain some oil out of your crankcase if you had a petcock down there. Just an idea!

I know it's an old thread just want to jump on and test posting ability, haven't been on in a long time lol. KIWI's parts book has note to leave out anti-sump ball/spring which I did and engine does wet sump after sitting a week or so. I added a nice oil supply shut off and attached a label on speedometer "check oil" for my weak brain. I visited an old hillclimber in New York decades ago and his hillclimbers had oil supply shut offs. He said when riders approached the starting gate they turned off oil supply and picked up additional power by removing oil sloshing around the flywheels. Takeaway is roller bearing crankshafts are more forgiving than babbitt shelled automotive style
