  • Looking for some education on Schebler Venturi's

Hello everyone. Been awhile since I've posted....too cold to go into the garage here in Chicago area, so I brought a project into the kitchen. I am trying to rebuild a Schebler DLX 81 for a '32 Chief. The venturi was frozen inside of it....and after careful extraction, it is now in about 30 pieces. Been trying to locate a replacement, but can't seem to find one anywhere. It is listed as 1 1/4" - 15/16". It definitely isn't brass....and I'm guessing it is comprised of pot metal, just like the carb itself. Can I use a linkert venturi with the same 1 1/4" - 15/16" dimensions, or is that a completely different animal? I also have a DLX 91 carb which there doesn't seem to be much info on except that it was probably on '32-'34 Chiefs that were sent overseas, and I need a venturi for that one also. These schebler venturi's seem to be listed as model X, model Y, model Z and so on. No idea what model venturi is accurate for a '32 Chief.

If anyone knows who I can source these venturi's from, I would appreciate it. Also if there are venturi's with other dimensions that one could modify to make work, I would be interested in learning about that also. Thanks for any and all info you might have. Brent.

    Please refresh my memory, Brent,...

Was your DLX81 throat-vented, or through the side of the body?

Either way, before you order venturies,...

Please observe for borewear from the throttledisc that may need repair, as you will then need an oversized venturi and disc.

If you must cut corners and install a standard O.D. venturi, then a common Linkert M88 will do for a throat vented model, but for a side-vented model, ... .. .

It might work just as well, maybe.

PS: Don't feel bad about a fragmented venturi!

here are some pics to hopefully answer your questions Tom. Not sure what you mean by throat vented or through the side of the body, but the venturi need is for an external vented carburetor. Looking for a venturi that will be great for my application.

Your pics don't tell me much, Brent,..

Is there a hole into the bore beneath that arch on the casting?

        If so, its side-vented;

Frankly, I'd put a bigger choke in it anyway, if you are going to ride it.

Then your original had a slot at the bottom of the front of the venturi, Brent,

And the Linkert M88 venturi should do, but I would still opt for a 1 1/16" from Greer's or wherever.

Anything is swageable for an oversize repair, but a disc is a trick.

I've also got a box full of busted pot metal venturis. The 1930 VL uses the DLX 80 so very similar. I would also use the 15/16" venturi for the M88 as a direct replacement. If you need the 1 1/16 or even 1 1/8 venturis I have the Harley ones in stock which will need a slot or groove filed underneath for the vent.

Greer's offers the 1 1/16" in both slotted and un-slotted styles,...

(Side-vented bodies should have a Linkert venturi with the annular void extended back far enough that the vent hole is not obstructed.)
