  • Generator Pulley

I am changing generators. My drive pulley has been notched/flattened to ease belt replacement.
QUESTION: What is the ideal position of the "flat" to accomplish this?

Because there is very little clearance between the pulley and the trans top the flat allows the belt to be removed when it is rotated to the bottom.
It is so easy to remove the pulley I would not do this but apparently some think its an improvement.

I agree with Tom, how often do we change belts.

I keep a very thin coat of grease on the pully shaft and key. The nut has blue Loctite. The pulley comes off easily when its needed. Indian Frank just rebuilt mine to 12V specs so I will be doing this job soon as well.
