Never has an Amal manifold crossed my benches, Folks...

So I suspect they are rarer than the carbs!

It seems the Bonneville designation went away for M350 and M352, Tom,..

Because all internals were Bonne equivalent anyway.

I have never recorded an M351!

        ....Cotten
PS: Until fossil record proof is presented, I doubt any M346, M347, or M442 as well.

Frankly, the M542 and M648 listings are suspect.

We must ignore omissions, like the M741-1?

If 1940 and earlier chiefs were Scheblers, was the MBONN ever listed for 46-48 which I think are the most likely years.

Correct. The 49-52 verticals ran the Amal 275 on Arrow and scout, the Amal 276 on both Warrior models.
I don't think the '49 Chiefs, even if they were put together with left-over '48 parts, ever used Amals.
That would be very strange indeed.

The 49 Arrow and Scout had Linkert S2 or S3 carbs. At least some of them. Pictured is an S3

              It ain't easy, Tom,...

When the pre-Linkert '40 Indian parts book lists Bonnes that may never have existed.

              ....Cotten
PS: I trust a well established Indian authority that there were no Bonne Schebs.

Tom, I dug up some info on the manifold. It looks like they used the Indian Manifold with an adapter similar to the unit used for Keihin CV carb adapters.

Looks a lot smarter than the Keihin, Deebs!

I had a similar adapter on my first Indian 80cu with a Volvo SU H6 1 1/2" .Constant velocity,a great carb for a chief except it stuck out a little.
I think a much better design than the Amals, but a little big on motorcycle.
                        No rubber either.

Looks like an another evolutionary dead end to me, Folks!

(Like the 'modern' HD Tillys, which go down in History with Lectrons, Lake Injectors, etcetera.)

The DLX design ruled from about '12 through '65, truly the Golden Age of American motorcycling.

Yet just a half-century later, we have no valid explanation how the Linkert idle bleed slot was cut, as if it were the Egyptian Pyramids.

                            ....Cotten
PS: Over a decade ago, I held a modern-cast EDM attempt in my hands, and outfitted it to run, with hardware.

The slot looked *marginal*, I guess.

And the *entrepreneur* stiffed me totally, so we shall never know how it ran.

                            No good deed,...

Yes but a little different float bowl connection.
                              Currently have a pair of 1 3/4" on 1959 Triumph TR3.

Here is the Amal (original) off my 53 Chief….

                                IMG_0436.jpeg IMG_0435.jpeg

                                IMG_0437.jpeg

In addition to the manifold adaptor there is a threaded flange and a spacer for mounting the air filter.

This carb hasn’t been on the bike for over 40 years, it has a M352 and runs great. I still have the Amal handlebar controls….

My father always claimed he had a 49 Chief engine out of a NYC cop bike. I haven’t come across it yet in his stash, but when I do I’ll be sure to post some pictures of the numbers.
