  • Left Hand Crankcase

I picked up what I believe to be a NOS case half, or maybe it’s slightly used. In any event, are these year specific?

I see the breather boss isn't drilled, and tapped. I believe 1936 was the last year that boss was D&T'd for a breather elbow. Regardless, Joe, that is a great find.

1938 had breather hole, not sure about 1939.1944 had timing hole so probably a 1940-43
Now the question.Do you number it with correct stamps just like every dealer or later restorers would back in the day or use it as is blank.
Is a boss stamped for the first time really altered?obviously not same as factory numbered, but not a file off and restamp either.

              Any non-factory stamping, Tom,...

Is a felony in most states (or used to be...)

(Unless the State does it, and that's always worse.)

PS: The Illinois State Police Inspector explained it to me that it would be theft against Indian® to produce a unique machine in its name,.. and fraud, of course, to alter and present to due process a booger.

If you wanted to stamp the cases just for fun you could use the correct tool to do it.
