  • Indian chief oil pump timing

    Hi,
I am working on the chief engine.. it dose not have timing hole so I just check 1 1/2 inch below top dead end of front cylinder on compression.
    photos.jpg
then put the oil pump to set the timing slit 90 degree against the body line... then how about the plunger? any correct direction? or dose not matter?
I just put the white dot to see direction of the hole of plunger... any suggestion would be appreciated. thanks Shin

put distibutor and cap in pump in and slide the pump on to align the wires straight to the frame in full advance position .If its off back the pump off a little and change the initial position of the dist. Then secure the pump screws
If thats 1 1/2" ,that way too much.1/2 -5/8 is better starting point.
    The plunger position is irrelevant.
BTW that pump is pre 48.

Manual says 1/2" and it's an early pump style '48.
