  • 1940 chief rear brake hub

    I am regreasing the bearings on my 1940 chief ,when i disasembled the rear hub ,there was a piece of shim stock around the bearing ,with the shim stock in place the bearing is tight in the hub is it ok to leave the shim stock in there thanks jerry

    There is a pair of cages and rollers in the hub and a double row bearing in the brake drum.
    I think you mean the brake drum bearing.
    The drum should be replaced, shim is a temporary repair, not really safe.

      Thanks , i think i will order a new brake drum and sprocket to be safe ,is it difficult to re rivit the new sprocket to the brake drum? thanks
