    speedo drive question:

am about to close up the drive unit after replacing the speedo drive gear. It didn't seem like when I took it apart that there wasn't much grease in it. My question is should the unit be packed with full of grease?

Yes that's why the grease fitting.I dont think you can over grease it.Also check the engagement of the ring and pinion.
usually the ring wears a groove in the potmetal housing allowing it to move tighter into the pinion and then the steel pinion wipes out the ring. Some people shim the ring gear,or replace housing.
Like a car rear end you can use the grease to show gear mesh and you should have some very little lash.
