  • 1940 Chief clutch

    Hi guys,

I just came across a problem assembling the clutch on a '40 Chief, the usual trick of using the primary cover didn't work because the clutch worm of a 40 model is shorter!

Why was it changed on later models? I have ordered a tool from Jerry Greer.

How much should the gap be between the assembled plates (new Greer assembly) and the basket?

    All answers gratefully received

    Thank you
    Regards

    Tim

    Hi Tim,
I'm not sure why they changed over the years; different threads for faster action, etc.... But I like to keep the gap at .150", using a drill bit to measure this area between the pressure plate & spring plate.
Is this the same Tim that drove the recovery Van for the Aussies?
