    Hi.
The 4 fins on the 61-62 cam cover look like the 63-64 outside oil cover. These 2 covers are different to the earlier four fin covers.
The lowest fin on these two covers is only 3 inches and does not reach the front edge of the cover like the earlier 4 fin covers.
There is no mention of this 61-62 cover in the How To Restore book.
If you need a picture let me know.

You are right on the How to restore book ,I have this book .
I do know the 63 and 64 had the outside oiler but did not know
about the 61,62 and the ealier ones had a longer fin on the bottom
fin. And yes if you could send pictures it would help me when I go to
buy one. Thank you so much for you help . ESQUIRE

55 and earlier covers are different in the area at the top of the oil pump. In the pic Chris posted you see a tubular portion running upward at about 50 degrees. This is not present on the early covers and the edge of the crank case is visible there.

Esquire. I have a taken a picture of the 4 types of 4 rib covers.
In the past I have found myself inadequate in task of posting pictures on the forum.
If you send me a email I can send it to you.
Or I can send it to one of the more geekish.... err no.... strike that. That should read tech heads of the forum.

This is a weird subject. Here’s a pic of an original paint 60 at Oley 08 and the cover on it sure looks like the one on the 62 Chris posted. Bob L

Hi Bob. Nothing wierd... your right. I researched this subject a few years ago and wrote on each cover what years I found they were fitted to. I had written on that perticular cover 60 -62. Better strike what I wrote in my first post. I was working from memory ..... which is not my best medium these days. I was too lazy to climb up to my loft to check what I had written on the covers

What do you mean by outside oil written on the 64 cover?

Outside oiler is 1963-64-65. The oil line comes out between the lifter blocks, just near the cam cover/case face.
You will see a hole in the pointy bit at the top of that cam cover. This is for the adjusting screw that regulates the amount of oil to the top end.
Harley made the chage from oil lines that were drilled up through the side of the barrels to a external oil line.
This kept the oil that was delivered to the top end cooler.
Note that the cover for a 1965 outside oiler is different again. The cover I have posted is 1963-64 only

I took the pictures and tried to put the right years on them is this right 1954 to1957 and 1958 to 1959 then 1960 to 1962.
and then they had the 1963 to 1964 outside oiler with the fins then came the 1965 with no fins but still had the outside oiler.
                              Is this right??
