  • V-Tronic 6V 3-Pole Cut-out Relay

My cut-out relay is defective on my 48 pan and while searching the web, I came across the V-Tronic 6V 3-pole cut-out relay. Has anyone replaced their Delco Remy relay w/ the V-Tronic relay? If so, has it worked well? What about longevity or service life? Any pros/cons?

    http://v-tronic.com/vtronic/index.ph...d=24&Itemid=38

Also, if installed on a judged bike, would points be deducted for using this relay?

    Thanks,
    William - #10035

i would think as long as it is under the original cover no one could remove to check the item itself. as long as the outside looks the same you would be o.k.

Thanks Glenn. The manufacturer states the old cover fits their relay base.

Another general question: Did the chrome relay cover (in the 48 deluxe group) have Delco Remy embossed on the top, like the original black covers?

Too bad they didn't put the numbers on the mounting bracket as an original has.

My experience with V-tronic: I have installed (on my WLA) their ignition module and it works great...

              Chris,
I noticed that to and wished they stamped a number in the mount.

Matt, thanks glad to hear it works well.

              Thanks, ERDOS

Looking closely at the photo in the link provided by William, I believe I see numbers stamped in the base, and in the correct location, but I can't tell if they are the correct numbers.

I emailed V-Tronics and asked if they can provide the numbered stamped in the rely base. Hope they answer. I'll post their reply if they do.

V-Tronic Engineering' email response is listed below.

"The base plates we have carry the number 1116752. There were several number in the past on the base plates. You can check in the book: how to restore a Harley.

I have no information of distributors of the cut out in your area, but 45parts.eu ship worldwide.

But many Harley dealers have the cut outs in stock. It is a common product."

45parts.eu pricing appears to be EUR 31.24 (US$45.84) plus shipping. Not sure how many Harley dealers carry this since the motor company pushes the 'A, B & C' level parts inventory scheme with the dealers. The search continues for state side inventory.

45 Parts Depot is also a state side business. Likewise NOS Parts will have them in stock (and any V-Twin dealer can order one in) ... Perry

William, I am interested in this item. Would you be so kind as to post again once your new V-tronics device is installed and operational? In the past, I have not had much luck with any of these new-fangled electronic replacement devices, and I'd sure like to hear how it works out for you.
                          Best regards,
                          Tom

Tom, Will do. One note I did receive from V-Tronic Engineering is the 'gen' lamp will not burn as bright with the solid state unit. This results from the diode consuming 0.7v. They also stated not to install a new lamp with a higher wattage - this will damage the diode. If anyone has a source for an OEM (delco) relay p/n 74750-38 (NOS or used & working), I'd like to have a back-up. Please email me.
