Putting my pan heads together and saw the new springs have a paint line down all coils on inner and outer springs. are they there for a reason and if so why? Lloyd

The reason depends on who made them but such marks are usually used to identify differences that cannot be readily seen by eye. in this case most likely pressure. Yellow stripe could be FLH springs and blue maybe standard or something like that. Factory FLH springs were identified by silver paint.

BMH, These springs are OEM part # 18205-57. They have a orange or red dab of paint on each inner and outer coil............. thanks Lloyd

18205-57 is for a set of both inner and outer springs.

Not sure Lloyd, the part number changed to -57A at some point. the only reference I have is that -57 FLH springs were identified by silver paint. If you are uncertain I would advise checking the pressures.
